Accessibility

Alice is for everyone.

We want every person to be able to take the journey with Alice, including people who use a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or are sensitive to motion on screen. This page says what we have done to make the site accessible, what is not perfect yet, and how to reach us.

Our commitment

We are committed to making Alice usable by people with disabilities, in the spirit of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the accessibility laws of the places our users live. Accessibility is part of how we build every page, not a separate project.

The standard we work to

We design and build the site to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the W3C. When this statement was written we ran the main pages through an automated checker (axe) against the WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules and fixed what it found. We have not had an independent audit, and we do not claim that every page meets every criterion.

What we have done

  • Each page declares its language and reading direction, so a screen reader reads it correctly.
  • Headings, links and buttons are real elements, so you can reach and use them with a keyboard.
  • In the questions and answers, each question opens from a button that tells a screen reader whether it is open or closed.
  • Buttons that show only an icon, like send or save in the conversation, have a name a screen reader reads aloud.
  • Decorative drawings are hidden from screen readers, so they do not get in the way.
  • When your device is set to reduce motion, the animations on the home page, in the conversation and on the summary stop, and you see the finished picture right away.
  • Text is dark on a light background, at a contrast that meets Level AA.
  • The site adapts to your screen, on a phone, a tablet or a computer, and you can enlarge the text.
  • On the right edge of every page there is an accessibility button. It opens a menu where you can enlarge the text, raise the contrast, underline links, switch to a plain, readable font and stop animations. Your choice is remembered on your device.
  • Your journey summary is also an image you can download; every word in it appears on the same page as text.

What is not perfect yet

Alice's replies in the conversation are written as they arrive, a few words at a time. Some screen readers announce them in parts. If that gets in the way, waiting a moment for the full reply and then reading it works well, and we are working to make this smoother.

Browsers and devices

The site works in the current versions of the common browsers: Chrome, Safari, Edge and Firefox, on a computer and on a phone.

The iPhone and Android app shows the same site, so everything on this page applies to it too.

Online only

Alice is an online service. We have no place you can visit; the whole service is the site and the app.

Reaching us about accessibility

Ran into a barrier, or something that is not accessible enough? Write to us at contact@alicemind.co. It helps to tell us what happened, on which page, and on which device and browser. We will answer you, help you use the service in the meantime, and fix it.
